Pedal on my recumbent trike
When riding a recumbent it is very easy for ones foot to slip off the pedal. I was advised to get 'clipless' pedals and the appropriate shoes, which I did. However, I found it so hard to use these that I took the pedals off and substituted ordinary ones with toe clips. Many years ago I read an article by the British professional Barry Hoban in which he suggested threading the strap through the back of the pedal instead of the side, giving a much more secure fixing. (I immediately tried this - as it was easy and free - but I found that, wearing cleated shoes, it was actually almost impossible to remove ones foot from the toe clip. I fell off the bike at the first road junction!)
However, as one is not likely to fall off a trike, I tried the method again. Excellent. My feet hardly slip on the pedals and as an added bonus I can let people have a go on the trike easily and reasonably securely. (Folk like having a ride on this.)
8 feet of recumbent goodness !
from tip to tail...!
ok, so on my `benchmark, downhill spinout`....i got 2mph faster than i've had before !
hit 40 mph !
